OUR CHIDAX PUPPIES
When purchasing a CHIDAX Puppy you can do so with the upmost confidence. Great care and planning has gone into the creation of your little puppy. All our dogs live with us in our home and are part of our cherished family. He or she will have been socialised using the 'The Puppy Socialisation Plan' recommended by The Kennel Club/Dogs Trust (found in your puppy pack). They will each week be exposed to different things to help prepare them for the big wide world. Such as different kinds of people, places, animals, handling all parts of their body, a variety of floor surfaces etc. so by the time they reach 8 weeks old they are pretty outgoing confident little babies.
Every care has been taken to ensure the optimum health of our beautiful dogs. From the day the pups mother comes into season she is given pregnancy supplements from Dorwest to give her extra vitamins and minerals to help her through whelping. Our dogs are fed a high quality diet, we use Royal Canin food which they love (Dachshund/Mini Adult/Mini Starter varieties) plus fish such as Sardines & Tuna. All our Puppies are Kennel Club Registered, PRA Clear (Progressive retinal atrophy - cord-1 eye condition), Vet Checked, Microchipped, Vaccinated, Insured, Wormed, Flea Treated, Socialised and come with access to our exclusive 'Chidax Puppies & Owners' Facebook Group. They go off to their new homes with a Royal Canin food bundle, Toys, Scent Blanket, Puppy Pack, Contract, and come with a life time of Support from us. Including the promise of a home with us if ever needed in the dogs lifetime, if the owner cannot keep the dog for any reason. The puppies have regular interaction from our young niece and nephew who love making a fuss of them. We only breed the colours recognised by the kennel club, never dilutes due to the health conditions that are associated with them. We are very fortunate to use lovely local health tested stud dogs in a variety of colours with very low IVDD scores.
Our dogs enjoy regular outings to the local beaches, parks and a field that we hire for their enrichment where they can really let off some steam, and run as a pack together safely.
A bit about Dachshunds
Dachshunds originated from Germany right back to the 15th Century. Their name basically translates to 'badger dog' because this is what they hunted. Their long bodies and strong stumpy little legs were ideal to dig down holes and into tunnels. The Smooths are believed to be -the original dogs. Longhairs resulted from selected breeding of smooths with varying coat lengths. The addition of rough coated terriers much later on , in the 1800's led to the Wirehaired Dachshunds. Also around this time - a boom in Germany's rabbit population led to the development of the Miniature Dachshund. In addition to Standards & Minis, Europe's Federacion Internationale Cynologique recognizes a third category of 'Teckel' as the breed is called in Germany the "Rabbit Dachshund" which is somewhere in between the two sizes. In the UK, there are only the Standard and Miniature Dachshunds, which are defined by weight. There is an informal middle ground called a "tweenie" - a shortened form of "in betweenie"
Is a Dachshund right for you?
A Dachshund is the right dog breed for you if you want a small, loyal, smart, clingy, loving dog that’s full of personality and character. However, they are not the right dog breed for you if you want a quiet dog that does their own thing and does what they’re told!
Dachshunds are small dogs that don’t need as much exercise as larger dog breeds.
Just 30 minutes is enough for adult Miniature Dachshunds and 60 minutes for larger adult Standard Dachshunds. Of course, these are just daily exercise minimums and you can walk further if you work your adult Dachshund up to longer distances. Although, they do tend to let you know when they’ve had enough!
They are classed as a small dog breed so fit in well in either an apartment or more of a rural setting. They don’t take up much room and are happy just snuggled by your side.
Due to their size, they are easily manageable and therefore suitable for older and younger people to own.
However, they can bark and are often prone to separation anxiety. So, you could run into problems with your neighbours if you leave them home alone too long. They definitely prefer the company of other dogs when being left. They can be stubborn but extremely faithful.
They can live up to 17/18 years of age in some cases but an average would be closer to 13/14 years. So this is something to think about as they are a life long commitment to take on.
